Sheriff Andy Howe is a lifelong resident of Vermillion, SD.  He graduated from both the Vermillion High School and the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.  He is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and is the Quartermaster of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3061 and a past Post Commander.  He has been employed at the Clay County Sheriff's Office since 1988 and has held every position from Jailer, Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant, and Chief Deputy prior to his election to Sheriff in 2002.  He is a certified firearms instructor.  Sheriff Howe enjoys his participation in several community service organizations.  Contact Sheriff Howe at ahowe@claysheriff.org

 

 

Chief Deputy Jerami West began his law enforcement career in 1998 when he became a corrections officer with the Clay County Jail.  In 2000, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and was promoted to Sergeant in 2003.  He became Chief Deputy in 2005.  Chief Deputy West is a firearms instructor, a Field Training Officer, and an advanced accident investigator.  He is also a certified Techniques of Alcohol Management (TAM) instructor and teaches the course to the community's alcohol license sellers.  While serving in the United States Navy, he earned an Associates Degree in Business Administration.  On his off duty time, Jerami enjoys spending time with his wife and three children.  His hobbies include fishing, camping, and traveling.  Contact Chief Deputy West at jwest@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

 

Sergeant Dallas Schnack began his career in law enforcement in 1992.  He currently works as the School Resource Officer for both the Vermillion and Wakonda School Districts in Clay County South Dakota.  He is the advisor to the Vermillion SADD chapter.  In addition to his assignment in the schools as SRO, he is primarily a sworn Sheriff's Deputy and as a Sergeant, helps the Sheriff and Chief Deputy with the supervision and training of the other deputies.  He is a certified Radar Operator Instructor.  Sergeant Schnack has also worked outside of law enforcement as a Teen Court Coordinator and as an Intensive Probation Officer for juveniles.  In his off duty time.  Sergeant Schnack enjoys astronomy, history, baseball, and spending time with his family.  Contact Sergeant Schnack at dschnack@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

 

Deputy Paul Pederson has been with the Clay County Sheriff's Office since September, 1999.  Prior to that, he was the Chief of Police in Irene, SD for one and one half years.  Deputy Pederson is a certified DARE instructor and is a department Firearms Instructor.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota in Criminal Justice.  He enjoys officiating youth and adult sports for the community.  In his free time, Deputy Pederson enjoys playing golf, downhill skiing, singing karaoke, and spending time with family and friends.  He has also been a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve since January, 1999 and was deployed in 2005 to Kuwait to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Contact Deputy Pederson at ppederson@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

 

Deputy Jeff Anders started his career with the Clay County Sheriff's Office in November, 1999 as a Corrections Officer in the Clay County Jail.  On October, 2002, he was promoted to Deputy Sheriff.  Deputy Anders received an associates degree in Police Science from Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, IA.  In 2005, he became a certified DARE instructor and teaches DARE in Vermillion and Wakonda Schools.  Deputy Anders is a certified Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) instructor and a Firearms Training Simulator (FATS) instructor for the Sheriff's Office.  He also teaches Techniques of Alcohol Management (TAM) and Defensive Driving to the community.  His hobbies include golf, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.  Contact Deputy Anders at janders@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

 

 

Deputy Kevin Noble started his career in law enforcement in 1996 as a correctional officer for the South Dakota Juvenile Prison.  In 1998, he accepted a corrections officer position with the Davison County Jail in Mitchell, SD where he was promoted to Civil Deputy.  In 2003, he became a Deputy Sheriff in the Clay County Sheriff's Office.  He is a certified Preliminary Breath Test (PBT) instructor and is certified to calibrate the PBT machines.  He is also a certified instructor in the use of OC spray as well as advanced DWI detection and investigation for patrol officers.  Deputy Noble has an associates degree in Criminal Justice from Kilian Community College.  His off duty interests are hunting, fishing, reading, and spending time with his family.  Contact Deputy Noble at knoble@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

 

 

Deputy Mike Mehlbrech began his Law Enforcement career with the Clay County Sheriff's Office in August of 2005.  Prior to starting with the Sheriff's Office, he served a tour in Iraq as a gun truck chief, as well as the Nuclear, Biological, Chemical Sergeant, and Unit Public Affairs Representative.  He has also worked with chemically dependent persons while employed at the Carroll Institute in Sioux Falls.   Deputy Mehlbrech has lived in the Vermillion area since 1999 and enjoys hunting, fishing, golf, water sports, and spending time with his family.  He is the present Commander of VFW Post 3061 in Vermillion.  Contact Deputy Mehlbrech at mmehlbrech@claysheriff.org

 

 

 

Lisa Wood joined the Clay County Sheriff's Office in 2004 as an Administrative Assistant to the Sheriff.  She is responsible for receiving and routing routine telephone calls, data entry, tracking money which passes through the Sheriff's Office in the form of fees collected, keeping files, reporting statistics, and a variety of other duties.  She is a graduate of the 911 telecommunicator course.  Lisa is a lifelong resident of Vermillion, SD.  Contact Lisa Wood at  lwood@claysheriff.org
